Governance Committee

The Governance Committee is currently full and being served by:

Governance Committee Chairperson

  • 2 year commitment
  • Participate in monthly Board Meetings
  • Attend in-person annual meeting (September 2 - 4, 2010)
  • Governance Chairperson is responsible for covering own phone and travel expenses for meetings
  • Chair Governance Committee meetings
  • Monthly time commitment 10-15 hours — time commitment can vary depending on project or time of year
  • Governance Committee Chairperson, as with all Board Members, are asked to demonstrate their leadership through a minimum yearly dakshina contribution of $500

  • Participate in Governance Committee conference calls
  • Support Governance Committee Chairperson with strategic policy and planning of resources development
  • Monthly time commitment 5 hours — time commitment can vary depending on project or time of year
  • Committee members are responsible for covering own phone expenses
  • All Committee Members are requested to demonstrate their leadership through a minimum yearly dakshina contribution of $500

Governance Committee

Purpose

  • Responsible for the overall development of the Board of Directors. This includes determining the priorities for board composition, identifying and recruiting potential board candidates, organizing orientation for new board members, organizing ongoing education for the entire board. And overseeing board evaluation activities.

Membership

  • The Chairperson of this committee is appointed by the Board Chair. Committee members are selected by the committee chair, approved and invited to participate by the Board Chair.
  • Criteria for membershipon this committee includes a strong understanding of and commitment to the Vision and Mission of MYF. In addition, these members should be highly respected and demonstrated leaders within the organization.

Board Focus Activities

  • Analyze current Board and identify areas of strength and weakness, considering technical and personal skills needed to complement Board diversity.
  • Review job descriptions and committee charges and propose amendments as appropriate to keep these aligned with the evolution of the organization.
  • Coordinate recruitment of new Board members for nomination.
  • Interview prospective volunteers and prepare a slate of candidates for the Board and referrals to committees.
  • Develop a Board orientation program that should also include participation by senior management.
  • Assist other Board committees with recruitment of volunteers and non-Board members.
  • Ensure a regular process of evaluating the health, relevance and performance of the Board is undertaken.

Operational Focus Activities

  • Provide support and mentorship to board members and senior managers as appropriate.
