Seva: Another Yoga Practice“Doing seva with Master Yoga has been a small way to give back to the organization, yoga teachers and staff who have given me access to something worth more than any amount of money can buy – access to this incredible path of yoga. With seva, you get much more than you give. And it helps you understand gratitude in a whole new way.” – Lori K. Seva is a Sanskrit term for the practice of karma yoga, the yoga of service. The Bhagavad Gita highlights karma yoga as skill in action. In this text, Krishna explains that work done without expectations, motives, or anticipation of its outcome purifies one's mind. Karma yoga is a traditional pathway to Self-realization. Karma yoga is a component of Master Yoga’s teacher training program, in Foundations and through all the levels of YTT. There is special time set aside during the course for group projects around the studio, and there are daily karma yoga opportunities with set-up and clean-up tasks. These seva jobs open the students up to a deeper experience of these teachings, and they propel students into a willingness and interest in helping others, which shows up first in the training classroom by supporting their classmates. At home, all Svaroopa® yoga classes shine with the teacher’s pure intention of serving their students and clients. This embodiment of the spirit of service is called seva. "When I signed on as editor of Tadaa! I just intended to serve Master Yoga -- to give back time and work to the source of yoga immersions and teacher training that has truly put me on a path of personal spiritual growth and delightful healing in body and mind. I just intended to give back -- but the seva keeps giving me more of all that I cherish in Master Yoga." – Marlene G. The practice of seva has always been alive in our organization, and we are grateful to all who have offered their seva over the decades – Master Yoga would not be where it is today without the support and dedications of our sevites! Are you interested in offering your service and diving in to the practice of seva? We can offer you an opportunity to serve which will work with your schedule and your skills. Your seva can help expand and enhance Master Yoga Foundation to effectively meet the changing needs of our not-for-profit organization and the community that Master Yoga supports. If you would like more information, or would like to make an offering of your time, please contact our Seva Coordinator, Kelly Sharp at kelly@masteryoga.org. She will be delighted to help you get started! There is no minimum or maximum amount of time required – whatever works with your schedule will be great. Thanks for your consideration! "Seva is a wonderful way to stay connected to the community and the flow of grace that moves through everything Master Yoga does." – Kamala G. Program Schedules | Request Catalog | Contact Us |
